Get to know our stories, get to know BND inc.

Meet Mr. Sivayogan who has acquired over 25 years of global expertise in logistics, supply chain management, operations and product sourcing. This combined experience has led him to become an integral part of BND Inc’s management operations.

What are the main functions of a Logistics Manager?

My core function is to ensure that products migrate seamlessly. I lead a team that provides me with updates from their departments on everything from accounting to shipping processing and developing delivery routes.

What is a typical day like for you?

My days are never the same; the CEO and I begin the day by reviewing each department’s performance. Following that, I check in with my logistics, transportation, warehouse, schedulers, and supply chain teams to resolve any challenges. After that, we plan and then strategize some more. Much detail needs to be examined by us when products are moving globally.

My day begins at 8 a.m. EST and concludes at 5 p.m. EST; after that, I remain on call owing to European and Asian market schedules. However, I don’t expect my staff to stay on call.

Tell us about a favourite memory from work.

Mr. Choudhry received a phone call from a Ministry of Health representative requesting an isolation gown when SARS was declared a pandemic. We were a little corporation at the time, and isolation gowns were not common. Neither did the larger medical supply companies have them in stock. But we were certain that we could procure them. W we were keen to complete the order when they placed it. From all the global conferences I’d attended, I had hundreds of business cards with observations written on the back of each one. SARS occurred before the internet was as efficient as it is now. I sat down and called suppliers all around the world until 2 a.m., completing the order and delivering the gowns to the healthcare department.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Friends and family are essential to me; we spend most of our time with family. My wife and I attend the gym because we value our health. In addition, I’ve lately started gardening, and I’m enjoying it.

Who are your favourite sports teams?

I don’t have a particular sports personality that I follow, but I like watching the NFL, NBA, and FIFA. I follow the 49ers, Raptors, Brazil, and Argentina sports teams.

What changes have you seen in supply chain and logistics since you joined BND nearly 20 years ago?

A lot has changed in the sector, with remarkable advances making my position more fascinating and profitable, resulting in more consumer solutions.

Paperwork to digital documents, for example, are routine in any business. In our industry, however, the shift has been working directly with the manufacturer. Previously, we had to go via a trading firm, which resulted in higher costs. Virtual trade shows are now possible, and this has dramatically altered product procurement and sourcing. Globally, there are more ports and ships, which has resulted in more routes.

With supply shortages and high demand for medical supplies across the country, how are you keeping up with orders?

We have built solid ties with manufacturers and logistics partners for over 40+ years; they have always been a part of our core values.

What’s the most significant misconception people might have about your job?

Many assume I can work from home, but this is not true because I must visit the warehouse and communicate with several departments daily. I like conversations, but I prefer being with my team.
